The company´s history is almost 100-years old.
The following data briefly illuminates some of the basic facts.

KÜHLHAUS ZENTRUM AG - which is one of the oldest cold-storage facilities – founded on March 3rd, 1911. The business property, a former brewery, was situated in the center of Hamburg (German: Zentrum), near the central railroad station. Therefore the name: Kühlhaus Zentrum.

In the late sixties it became apparent that operating the old cold-store was no longer economically feasible. Originally, the business area was meant for horse teams only.

For trucks the entries were too difficult to manoeuvre.

The direct customer base from the center of Hamburg became less significant. Therefore, in 1970 a new cold-store facility was started in Hamburg Wilhelmsburg, with 60,000 m³ in flat-type construction and fourfold stack-height. It went into operation in 1971. Seven years later the cold-store expanded with around 16,000 m³, suitable for fivefold stack-height.

In August 1983 the cold-store was almost completely destroyed by arson. Only the engine room, the workshops and the social rooms escaped. With 30% of the original capacity the business was continued on a restricted basis. Eight months after the fire, the rebuilt first cold-storage area was already back in use. The remaining cold-storage areas became operational again thirteen months later.

With the same base but larger height, the complete capacity was increased by 20%, at the same time the freezing capacity was 60 t daily. The storage capacity is 91,000 m³ = 23,600 pallets. Because of the provision areas required for some customers for order-picking, only 17,000 pallets approximately can be stored.
